Fall 2021 One Room Challenge Reveal!

Home

It’s the One Room Challenge reveal week! Over the past 8 weeks, I transformed one of our empty, plain guest rooms into a playroom for my son, Beckham. Let me show you what we started with:

This was a newly built house, so there was nothing wrong with the room, I just wanted to make it more fun! The first wall I started with I added a board and batten wall from floor to ceiling. I did this by using 1×2’s. For more details on the board and batten, look at this post! I decided to paint the wall Natural Tan by Sherwin Williams. It is the perfect light beige/tan color.

Next up, I added my favorite wallpaper EVER, this Giraffe pattern wallpaper by Livette’s Wallpaper. I am OBSESSED. This is removable wallpaper which I like because it can be easily taken down or switched out when your style changes or baby grows up. One thing I recommend when installing removable wallpaper is to put a coat of glossy primer on the wall- this makes installation SO much easier. When installing wallpaper, you will most likely need to take up areas and re-stick to the wall to line everything up. The primer make it easy to pull the wallpaper from the wall without removing paint or messing up your drywall. Yes, the wallpaper still sticks to the wall fine and will not fall off because of the primer. How good does this wallpaper look next to the board and batten wall!

The next area of the room I transformed was the closet. The closet already had a built in shelf with rod, but I wanted more storage so I decided to add in an Ikea Aurdal Closet system. But first, I added wallpaper to the back wall! Again, I used Livette’s wallpaper in sage herringbone. I LOVE this print too! Removing the built in shelf wasn’t too hard. It took me about an hour total. Don’t forget to mark your studs before installing your wallpaper! I surprisingly remembered to do this and it made installing the closet much easier.

There was a hold up in getting some of the closet shelves delivered that were forgotten in my order, so I go the third and final wall completed for week 5 of the challenge. This Play All Day sign was originally going to go on the board and batten wall, but didn’t line up with the wood work in a way that looked good, so I put it over these rattan shelves in a little ‘reading nook’ and I honestly think it looks better! I got the play all day cut outs from Carpenter Farmhouse on Etsy. They can custom make anything you want in a lot of different fonts and sizes!

Okay, now for the closet reveal! this Ikea Aurdal system added SO much storage! How cute is this! With the Aurdal system, you can actually add drawers where all the center shelves are. They were out of stock when I bought this, but I will eventually add drawers here.

There is one final thing from Brentwood Home that I am waiting for in here- it got delayed due to shipping/manufacturing issues, but they sent me these adorable bean bags to hold its place for now! This room is complete and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Thanks for following along with this room transformation! If you want to see previous updates from this project, click here!

  1. Such a sweet space, I really like both wallpapers and how everything came together 🙂

  2. […] I did a quick update to our small entryway this past weekend using my new favorite green- SW Shade Grown! This is the PERFECT green to give your space that dark and moody vibe. I loved our entryway color before (I mixed two colors together to create a really light tan so I don’t have a specific color to give you, but one of my favorite tan colors to use is SW Natural Tan. You can see this color on the playroom accent wall here!) […]
