DIY Entryway With Bench | Make Your Entryway Unforgettable!

Home

I love a small but mighty DIY project that adds a ton of life to a space. Our entryway with a bench did just that! In just a weekend, I was able to add so much personality to our home and turn our front door into a moment.

Do You Need an Entryway With a Bench?

Every time I walked past this wall I thought – I could definitely take this space up a notch. Now that I’ve completed ours, I only wish I’d have done it sooner!

A stylish, organized entryway truly sets the tone for the rest of your home. Not only is it the first thing guests see when they visit, but it’s also your first and last stop when you enter or leave your home. A well-designed entryway can prevent those rushed and panicky dashes out the door before school or work.

Plus, it’s a lifesaver for us as a busy family who is always on the go. My kiddo can sit down to take off his shoes, hang his little coat by the door, and head inside without tracking mud or dirt into my clean living room. What mom doesn’t want that?!

How to Design an Entryway With a Bench

I’ve never seen a house that couldn’t benefit from a styled entryway! Whether you have just a few feet of wall space (like me!) or an entire mudroom to work with, you can create an entryway that works for your family and looks amazing.

First and foremost, choose your furniture. You can find benches and entryway tables in just about every size, and you can opt for a narrow one to fit a smaller space. If you have plenty of room, pair your bench with a console table for even more functionality.

For even bigger spaces, make your own bench! I used our existing cabinets to place a large entryway bench in the back of our home. It’s perfect for when the kids come in from the backyard and need to kick off their muddy shoes!

Of course, I used this entryway project as yet another way to add shiplap to our home! When I first designed the entryway, I went with a lighter shiplap. I’ve since painted it a deep green, and I love the way it draws the eye to this wall!

There are a million shiplap tutorials online, so if you’re stuck on how to take a wall from good to great – try out shiplap!

How to Style an Entryway With a Bench

If you want to dress up your entryway and make it even more functional, add a few finishing touches! I like to hang a few hooks for bags and coats, and I almost always have a decorative bowl or key drop nearby.

I swear I re-style our entryway every few weeks, but that’s only because it’s so easy! I can hang a different bag, swap out the wall art, or add a decorative pillow for an entirely new look. It’s been fun to shop my own house to keep this space fresh and new.
